The Kēlen Online Dictionary HOME   DICTIONARY

The Kēlen dictionary is ordered by bases. A base is the baseform of the word without any inflectional affixes. Each base is derived from a smaller list of roots. Currently, the dictionary contains 512 roots and 1368 bases. Inflected bases make words, and each word has a definition.

Clicking one of the first four buttons below will return a List of All Roots, a Random Root with Bases, a List of All Bases, or a Random Base.

To search for a specific base (or word), enter any part of the base in the box to the right of the "Search for a Base Like:" button. Use the special character buttons to the left of the input field to enter special characters. When finished, click on the "Search for a base Like:" button to find the corresponding base(s). For example, entering 'tāŋ' would return the bases '-tāŋŋ-', '-tatāŋŋ-', and '-tāŋŋar-' along with their corresponding words.

To search by definition or part of a definition, enter a word or part of a word in the box next to the button that says "Search for a Definition like:" and then click on that button.

To find all instances of a certain part of speech (this works best for the rarer, non-Noun ones), find the part of speech in the drop-down list, and then click on the "Search for a Part of Speech:" button.
